This is a partnership program between Smile Train International and Gertrude’s Children’s Hospital, to carry out diagnosis and treatment of cleft lip and palate repair. This program has been running since February 2010. On average, 100 children undergo surgery under this program annually.
In addition, many children in this program also suffer from other illnesses and congenital conditions, which require treatment to enable them to undergo repair surgeries safely. This additional treatment includes antibiotics, vitamin supplements, occasionally vaccines, milk formula, anti-malarial drugs, anti-epileptic drugs, analgesics, antipyretics and anti-fungal medication. The patients also require specialist doctor reviews and treatment, for instance, by ENT surgeons, cardiologists, neonatologists and neurologists. The Foundation works towards meeting these additional needs through partners.
