Every year around 3,000 Kenyan children develop cancer. Roughly 600 are treated. The other 2,400 mostly go without — not because their cancers are untreatable, but because their families cannot pay.
Gertrude’s runs one of the country’s few dedicated pediatric oncology services. The Foundation’s role is to make sure a diagnosis is never the end of the story: we fund the full course — chemotherapy, labs, transfusions, ward admissions and follow-up reviews — for children whose families qualify for support.
Treatment works. Most childhood cancers respond far better than adult cancers, and children who complete treatment usually return to an ordinary childhood — school, siblings, football. The bottleneck is money, and that is exactly the problem donors can solve.
Outcomes so far
KES 250,000 covers one child’s complete course. Every amount helps reach the next one.
Since 1947, Gertrude’s has cared for Kenya’s children. The Foundation exists so a family’s ability to pay is never the reason a child goes untreated.
